Yet another reason why same-sex marriage would be a good thing.

Y’know, in case the equality, stability, and separation-of-church-and-state arguments just aren’t enough for you.

The Congressional Budget Office - a nonpartisan office under the national legislature that evaluates the financial impact of various bills and proposals - suggests from empirical evidence that allowing same-sex marriage can result in net federal savings of around $1 billion per year. This analysis is extremely similar to data from other groups, suggesting roughly proportional savings for individual states.

Hmm. So now there’s evidence that enabling same-sex marriages also automatically increases tax revenue (thanks to that awful awful marriage penalty) while simultaneously reducing costs in specific programs, lowering the need for individual legal interventions otherwise necessary to grant equal footing to same-sex couples, and encourage long-term partnerships instead of serial semimonogamy. And conservatives still oppose it why?

Thanks to The Advocate and Daily Kos for passing this one along.
