A very very very quick birthday-related post
Some of you might remember that I have a birthday coming up. In case you’re still struggling to come up with a cool gift idea,
a working 40GB 1.8″ Toshiba hard drive, model #MK4004GAH, would be exceptionally lovely.
Why so specific?
- That’s what was in the Scrubpod. (before i took it out.)
- The rest of the Scrubpod still works beautifully after nearly 2 years. Only the HD is b0rked.
- A new 40GB replacement hard drive for that model iPod currently runs in the neighborhood of $90 on eBay. A new 8GB iPod nano (the largest kind!) will cost $249. Though the iPod nano is considerably sexier than the workhorse Scrubpod, the largest one will cost more than twice as much as the replacement drive and only hold one fifth as much. (Similarly, the 30GB iPod costs $249 and only holds 75% as much.)
- I emphasized the word “working” because, duh, i already have a Toshiba MK4004GAH paperweight.
- A new hard drive for the existing Scrubpod would provide plenty of auxiliary enjoyment as I reassemble and revive the Scrubpod.
(and before anybody asks: a cube root of my age will be a prime number.)
UPDATE: my mother read this post and offered to reimburse me for the part in question. Found one on eBay for only a little more than what I had been bidding, and it’s on its way now. (and now i just need to skim archives for possible mother-related editing.)
