Need verification of my Spanish-English translation skills

Found a link to an article on El Mercurio’s Web site (El Mercurio is a conservative Chilean newspaper) about Conservapedia. Google’s translation service is almost laughably bad on this article — how does “Bizarro” become “Gallant”? — and Babelfish’s is worse, so I’m resorting to my own (rusty) knowledge of Spanish to interpret what it says.

I think I understand the article, but the last sentence — the reason I have this link — has a phrase which eludes me (in boldface here):

Jim Redmond, uno de los “wikieditores”, acusó el golpe, e insinuó que, más que fomentar el conocimiento, Schlafly trataba de imponer su punto de vista.

“acusó el golpe”? I assume from the context that that phrase implies “acknowledged the criticism”, but I am not 100% certain. Can somebody please confirm or deflate my crazy contextual assumption here? Thanks in advance.

update: both links are dead, so i’m removing them.

  • Heya, from another St. Louis Wikipedian. :)

The “acuso el golpe” directly translates as something like “accused the hit,” or “called the blame.”

I checked with one of my Argentinian contacts, and he says that the best translation of, “Jim Redmond, uno de los “wikieditores”, acusó el golpe, e insinuó que, más que fomentar el conocimiento, Schlafly trataba de imponer su punto de vista,” is:

“Jim Redmond, one of the wiki-editors, called foul and hinted that, instead of disseminating knowledge, Schlafly tried to push his own point of view.”

    Hope that helps,

    Elonka :)

P.S. Drop me a line sometime! We could grab a coffee or something.

  • Excellent, thanks!

I’m definitely up for coffee-or-something sometime.

  • Jim the link was broken to the article. How have you been bud?
