In heaven, everything is fine
Lots to discuss. Where shall I start?
- Got to work on Thursday morning and learned pretty quickly that the network file server was 101% full. That’s “fix NOW NOW NOW” priority, whatever remote users may think.
Cleaning that up took most of Thursday and Friday. The netadmin and I managed to reclaim about 7% by the end of Friday, but we’re once again up to 98% usage as of this morning. The netadmin is supposed to confront one notorious disk-space hog today, and I’m going to be getting unequivocal with a couple other people too.
- Also having trouble with nightly backups on that server —unison is choking on the scale of some jobs — so we’re examining alternatives.
- Had an uneventful server OS upgrade Saturday night. Those are getting to be pretty seamless; I’ve started to bring movies along to watch while the updates are applying.
- Lesson learned: Eraserhead is not suitable viewing when one is the only person in the entire spooky old building. The Lady in the Radiator’s voice carries a little too well in those halls…
- This weekend’s weather was gorgeous, so Fred and I had a nice little picnic Saturday. Only a couple leaves are changing at the moment, mostly on tulip trees, but fall is definitely on its way.
- Yay new season of Project Runway! Yay new season of The Boondocks!
- Waiting to hear back on Round 2 of last Wednesday’s interview.
