The new job begins
(Quickly, as I’m technically on lunch.)
Lots to do today, in addition to the usual first-day paperwork. Learning the network infrastructure; learning the physical layout of my desk and the various labs; learning a little about internal procedures and politics. Have a pager, a direct phone line, and a static IP now; just have to commit all those numbers to memory.
The big orientation session is Monday. Until then, I won’t have a “real” work e-mail address — just an internal one — and I won’t know all the details of the fabulous benefits and whatnot.
Got to go; will post more later on tonight.
