Moving…

Going to be moving JJV to a different CMS, ’cause I’m ready to migrate (and because my Web hosting company makes it supereasy, and because I’m bored at work, and because it’s healthier than trying to explain why vandalizing Wikipedia is bad even if the article is fluff to begin with). You may notice a few things changing over the next little while as I actually make the transition.

For now, the URL for this semibeloved blog will remain the same. I’m toying with moving it to the top level (i.e. http://www.scrubnugget.com, without the “jim” on the end), though that decision won’t be made for a little while yet.

Oh, the things we learn when we’re least expecting to learn anything…

Today, I learned that “estilo Detroit”, or “Detroit-style”, is Spanish slang for anal intercourse, by play on the word “detrás” (meaning “behind”). Wikipedia has the details.

Armed with this important knowledge, I went and Googled that phrase. I’m trying now to decide which result has the best unintentionally-funny use of the term. Early leaders are Detroit-style assembly line and Detroit-style is all runny and nasty, just a dog with chili on top.

Lord. That’s all I need — another distraction from work.

Howstuffworks publishes “How Wikis Work” and uses Wikipedia as its demo. Lots of activity on the usual vandal-targets, most of which happens while I’m on RC-patrol…
but I can revert vandalism faster now. ph34r.

tropical depression

Yup, we’re getting rain from the tropical depression formerly known as Hurricane Dennis.

This will not be a big thing for my coastal readers. However, I should remind you that I am in St. Louis — currently six hundred miles (a thousand kilometers) from the shore.

BoingBoing (how do I love thee!) points us to this set of instructions for making real Indian chai. You may notice how short the list of ingredients is… because, in India, they don’t really put spices in tea. Seriously. I’ve been there, and I can verify this first-hand.

Now all they need is a skeevy sweaty chai-wallah in a tinytinytiny stall pouring it back and forth between the pot and a small glass, and they’ll have the whole flavor down pat.
