Minor weather-related update
I know that the news has had many reports of flooding in Missouri and the rest of the Midwest. Just wanted to say that the city of St. Louis is fine; most of the really bad flooding is either on the edges of the metropolitan area or in outlying rural areas that are generally downstream of us. The rivers are up near us, but they’re well within the capacities of levees, floodwalls, and designated wetlands. (This isn’t 1993.)
It has been super-rainy here, though that’s a good thing for the dogwoods and daffodils after last summer’s (very) minor drought.
All the attention to the river does remind me of T. S. Eliot, though, and his discussion of the river as a strong brown god. It’s an apt analogy, if you ask me.

Holy carp!
Burke excommunicates St. Stan board
!!!!!!!
Guess that solves THAT problem.
However, Burke has no control over other affiliated rites: perhaps St. Stanislaus could go Maronite or something.
(and i think i need a new category on this.)

Reggie Sanders pwns.
2 more RBI for him, and the game isn’t over yet. (though Carpenter is pwning too, they’re warming up Isringhausen - and Izzy likes ‘em close.)
CBS’s online coverage has more; for what it’s worth, it’s my favorite interface for tracking baseball games online.
UPDATE: So Isringhausen pitched, and he just HAD to give up a run. I’m developing a theory that he cannot pitch effectively with a lead unless the tying run is at the plate.
(cardinals still won, though, so fred gets a happy boy tonight.)

a one-off while listening to the Cardinals game
…have I ever mentioned that I love the squeeze play?
Done properly, it is a thing of great elegance. And the Cardinals just pulled off a beaut.
In other baseball thoughts: I honestly can’t blame the Padres for walking in a run instead of facing Albert Pujols. Better to walk in one than give up four.
